Ben
Ben: Canine massage pre- and post-surgery
Ben was a foster greyhound rescued by 'Amazing Greys'. Poor Ben had been left at a dog
pound by his owner/trainer for euthanasia. Ben had a carpal injury and was deemed useless by the racing industry who were unwilling to rehabilitate him.
Ben was only 3 years old when he was dumped with a misaligned bone in his carpus which caused him pain with each step. He was recommended for a carpal arthrodesis, or fusion of his wrist, and required 8 weeks in a cast.
DogsBody Health volunteered their time for Ben and gave him treatments before and after his surgery. Whilst there would be nothing that canine massage could do to help solve his carpal injury, Ben had areas of muscular pain and tension due to his long term limping and also benefited from massage for blood flow and reducing inflammation. Ben was also on very restricted exercise so coming for a remedial massage gave him some enrichment too, he got to see a new place, smell some new smells, meet new people, get new treats and get a massage.
Ben will need life long treatment from his new family when he gets adopted but with a good diet, appropriate exercise, veterinary care and complementary health as required, he should be able to live a happy, healthy life.
